Le Voyage dans la lune

I've been toying lately with a pair of binoculars that my wife gave me for my birthday intended for amateur stargazing. Experiencing a meteor shower this summer was the driver for this new found interest. A few days ago I had a great view of Venus as I walked scrumpy in the early morning hours.

The photo in this post is from a 1902 silent era film called "A Trip to the Moon" directed by Georges Méliès . Most of his work was lost and that is unfortunate considering his genius. The film is in the public domain and you can find it on youtube.

Speaking of stars --I had a chance to hear BB King play a few weeks back and it was a memorable experience. His charisma is astounding and hearing him play the blues (Lucille and all) is something I would recommend to one and all. He is the undisputed king of the blues.

red truck

It feels like the month of August flew by. Lots of things have happened - like seeing a meteor shower ; I traveled to New York for a long weekend and actually drove to the east village on a Saturday afternoon, missed my return flight to Portland by 1 day, and hiked the 2nd waterfall loop in the gorge.

Here are some photos I've taken this past month in no particular order . I will admit the red truck inspires me to slow down more often. The mist from the fountain just reminds me of leisurely walks to class and the ocasional few I missed because life is so much more interesting.
